Alisa Brown

Parent Liaison – Sept 2022

I am Alisa Brown, the current Parent Liaison for the Board of NorthShore Robotics. As an oceanographer in my former career path, I have a passion for science education, which I enjoy bring to the underserved and underrepresented populations.  I have also developed a strong background in volunteerism and service to the community while living abroad in Canada and Angola.  As a stay at home parent while living as an expat, I was involved in organizing large school wide events, organized and sourced volunteers for a corporate HR adjacent volunteer group, and extensively planned and executed events for families in our expat community.  When seeing a need for expat parents of young children to be able to socialize and have somewhere to meet., I created, organized, and managed “Talatona Mom and Tots” in Luanda, Angola; a parent meetup group where kids could play and moms could connect and share experience and advice.  After repatriating, I saw a need for more worldly multicultural views in our community, and I’ve been able to do a small part by joining our local middle school PTA board and chairing the World Cultures Day event for 6th grade students. Living in southern Louisiana, first as a young aspiring scientist, and now returning as a mother of four, I have seen first hand the lack of quality STEAM education in our communities, and again want to work towards fulfilling community needs, and I’m excited to continue to grow NorthShore Robotics, while engaging with parents and students, to see to that end.
